Level Design, From Start to Finish

We wanted to kick off our seventh weekly-brief with an update from our awesome art team! As we’ve talked about in previous weeks, the visuals and aesthetics of this game are going to be one of the key features. As we creep towards our first build, our lead concept artist is working on a really neat way of designing the flow and layout of the level.

First, she sits down with her sketch book and draws out her design ideas. It comes out looking something like this.



Then, she imports the drawing into Unity where she can trace the ground sections and literally pull them off the page, so to speak.



From there, she can drop in the character to make sure the area is going to work before she starts beautifying it.



Finally, once the art team is done with all of their magic, the visuals will look something like this.



In this last picture you can even see other exciting progress: the left side wall and lighting are new, while the right side is the previous version. The archway in the center is one of many new assets as well.

We are excited to see these levels come to life, and we are even more excited about making progress towards getting a release version out as soon as possible.
